“Me Time” may be the last thing on your mind right now with all the busyness and work around you.
Even sitting and taking a deep breath seems like sin because while you do that, your kid has accidentally broken the expensive crystal vase you got from Singapore.
You are caught up in a frenzy of work, home, kids, society and family. Where is the time to STOP? Where’s your “Me Time”?
But you have to stop. You have to take a time out for yourself, for your mental healing and well-being. You can’t pour from an empty cup and to be able to give a wholesome you to each of your roles, you must be wholesome first.
HERE’S a 5 Point List of Resolutions to Swear by for Me-Time!
1) New Mother Support Group
Talk and convey to your family especially your husband that you need a break (time for yourself – Me Time). In-fact, ask for their help and support. What every new mom should know and realise is that she can’t do it all by herself. She needs support.
2) Unplugging from Social Media
Social media takes up most of the interim space in our lives. It may be informative but often gets overwhelming. So take a break from your mobile and laptop and tablet and feel the fresh-unprejudiced air into your lungs.
3) Get a Complete Health Check-Up
No news is good news. But once you get a medical checkup done, you ll know you are either deficient in Vitamin D or C or cholesterol or Hb or any other vital mineral.
And that medical report is a good motivation to do something for yourself. Dedicate 15-30 minutes (as per time availability) of your day on your health and feel the difference of this time out on you. Use your “Me-Time” efficiently.
4) Me Time Workout
Moving your body can mean anything from a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) to a sweaty session of Yoga to a short spell of breathing exercises to a reverberating hour of meditation. It can be anything that makes your body and mind relaxed.
5) Go out Uden dasgorden
Uden what ??
Denmark is considered the happiest country in the world and Uden dasgorden ( pronounced ooon- dasorden ) is a popular Danish term meaning “without agenda.”
Always having a task or work to do in mind is quite annoying. So for just 10 minutes in a day, go out in the Sun. Not for buying groceries or some stationery for kids or any household task but SOLELY FOR YOURSELF.
Go to the terrace or street garden or your verandah or your balcony and sit or stroll there to reconnect yourself with Nature. Believe me its magical to see the birds chirpING and tall trees standing there.
Nature is the biggest healer. Embrace it and get enchanted by its healing power.
I know being a mom means that I often must be strong. But, at the same time, I think it’s important to tell your family that you too have weak moments and need help. Let them help you and you will all feel connected as a family.
Good Luck and cheers!! Write to me/ WhatsApp me if you have any more self-care ideas. I would love to share them with fellow moms and make you a part of this “new mother support”.
